For our first week of trimester two we were asked to start a reflective journal on an online blog. We are to reflect on the online lectures that are provided, producing a total of five blogs over a six week period. The first lecture asked us the question, what is our professional identity? It explains that our professional identities will change over the course of our careers and continues by asking how we, the creative practitioners in all industries, are the same. It explains how we are perceived and depicted in media and also suggests that we share an entrepreneurial mindset. It then continues by outlining the similarities in our work settings, talks about the importance of envisioning our careers future and finishes with the importance for being passionate about the work you do. This video was also provided:

Reflecting on this information, there are some points that resonate with me. The concept of entrepreneurialism being more than someone who excels at developing a business intrigues me.

The quote by Jerry R. Mitchell also had an impact on my perception of the concept of entrepreneurialism, the section of the quote “They’re creating their own reality. They’re not in it for the money. They’re in it for the freedom.”, resonated with me. I feel as though this applies to the way I plan to pursue my career in the future, working to live and not living to work.

I believe spending your life doing something you love is far more important than how much money you make. Money is nothing, time is everything. We don’t have long, so why waste it?

This is an article I read a while back that can really help put priorities into perspective.

There are so many different aspects of design that someone can specialise in and I really have no idea what specific area I am passionate about yet. I do see the importance in establishing a professional identity and having an online presence though it is hard to set up a professional identity when your not sure exactly what direction you want to head in. At the moment i'm leaving my options open and keeping an open mind to whatever comes my way. I love what i'm doing, i'm passionate about art and design and apparently that goes a long way.

“You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” - Steve Jobs
